ClamWin 0.90

ClamWinClamWin is a free anti-virus program for Windows Systems, based off of the popular ClamAV (UNIX/Linux antivirus program). It has a very very thorough scanner that can take a very long time for larger systems, but a very quick scan for smaller systems. It is not a very commonly used Anti-Virus due to the fact that most people use paid antiviruses because they have a more steady stream of updates than free AVs. But I have to say, if there is a hope for free, open-source anti-virus scanners, it is ClamWin!
Here are the pros and cons of ClamWin in a list:

Pros: ClamWin Free Antivirus comes with an easy installer and open source code.

* High detection rates for viruses;
* Scanning Scheduler;
* Automatic downloads of regularly updated Virus Database.
* Standalone virus scanner and right-click menu integration to Microsoft Windows Explorer;
* Addin to Microsoft Outlook to remove virus-infected attachments automatically.

Cons:
*No real time virus scanning;
*Updates are sometimes random

Just things: ClamWin is free and opensource

My rating 5/5

    Hi Gabe. What is the difference between AVG and ClamWin? Which one do you think is the best free antivirussoftware to be use?

    Sorry for posting twice. Just want to clarify, currently I’m using AVG and what I don’t like about AVG is it tend to do a lot of updates in one day. Because of this, it will slow down my PC.

    What was your source that you stated the following,

    “* High detection rates for viruses;”
    ,
    most everything I’ve read says the opposit with it being #35 out of 50 tested. hardly in the top area for recognition.

    ClamWin/ClamAV have a very high detection rate for *current* viruses, especially those being spread in email. If you want to detect the MSDOS Dark Avenger virus from 1990, ClamWin probably won’t detect it, while Kaspersky’s, Norton’s and Avira’s products will. But do you really care if it will detect ancient MSDOS viruses anyway?
